JOB DESCRIPTION:
The South Carolina Timber Producers Association (SCTPA), founded in 1999, seeks to serve as the voice for timber harvesting and allied timber businesses to advance the ability of its members to professionally, ethically, efficiently, safely, environmentally and profitably harvest, produce and transport timber to meet supply demands of our state by providing continuing education and training opportunities, distributing timber harvesting, hauling, manufacturing and selling information, representing our members in national and statewide legislative activities, supporting and advancing sustainable forestry practices and policies, and aggressively promoting, supporting and conducting programs of state, regional and national advocacy. The Executive Director will provide strategic leadership, oversee financial management, advocate for the benefit of members, and build partnerships across the state. This full-time position requires travel throughout South Carolina, including regular presence in Columbia during the legislative session.


Objectives of this role:
• Work closely with board directors and committees to assess and address issues affecting the organization
• Increase awareness of the organization by being the main spokesperson and liaison with media focusing on organizations social media presence
• Serve as association representative within the state and national industry, related associations, and related government sectors
• Cultivate and maintain relationships with local, state and federal government officials to monitor, seek and promote legislation for the benefit of all related timber harvesting segments

Responsibilities:
• Oversee daily operations of the organization, providing executive direction for program strategies and efficiencies, compliance, and quality assurance
• Manage organization finances including reporting to CPA, develop an annual budget, assisting CPA with all related finances and providing the board with regular updates
• Plan, attend and conduct board meetings, district meetings and the annual meeting for the benefit of the membership and the promotion of the association
• Increase the organizations social media presence and promotion in an effort to keep the association relevant and membership active
• Maintain records for new and renewal memberships
• Develop and organize the association newsletter for publishing and distribution to recipients
• Travel required within the state weekly and occasional out-of-state, overnight travel required

We’re hiring! We are looking for someone to join our education staff 24 hours a week to lead public programs, tours, and student experiences on the ecology and history of Hobcaw Barony.

REQUIREMENTS:
Although a degree in natural resources, history, or tourism is desired, a high school diploma and valid South Carolina Driver’s License is required.

Under direct supervision, provides forest management assistance to private landowners to include preparation of forest management plans. Administers cost-share programs for the project. Assists with conducting prescribed burns, wildfire suppression, and disaster response. Represents the SC Forestry Commission at local meetings. Provides forest management assistance and outreach to landowners and the general public to promote active management of forestland. Writes forest management plans to produce multiple benefits including the sustainable production of forest products, clean air and water, wildlife habitat, aesthetics and to mitigate wildfire risks through recommending mastication and other fuels reduction activities. Administers cost-share programs and prepares reports. Assists landowners with implementation of forestry practices. Performs insect and disease activities. Represents agency at local meetings. Responds to wildfires both in-state and out-of-state through Southeastern Compact requests and western wildfire assignments. Participates in FireWise activities to include conducting wildfire risk assessments for at-risk communities in the wildland urban interface and other wildfire prevention events. Responds to non-wildfire disasters, and participates in wildfire and disaster-related exercises as directed. Assists in basic wildfire investigations, burn site inspections, participates in incident management activities on large fire events. Supports Sector Fire Management Officers on fire suppression activities. Participates in opportunities for professional growth as directed such as working with specialty foresters and participating in and/or conducting training as directed to include wildland fire training (i.e. fireline refresher). Serves as acting Sector Fire Management Officer when needed. Provides landowner services such as prescribed burning and timber marking in project area and elsewhere as directed.

REQUIREMENTS:
A bachelor's degree in forestry from a college or university accredited by the Society of American Foresters. Required to be a SC registered forester within two years of appointment. Must pass a physical fitness test of walking two (2) miles in thirty (30) minutes carrying a 25 lb. pack or meet the agency physical fitness program requirements. Must obtain firefighter registration with the SC State Fire Marshall's office. A criminal background check is a condition of employment. Must possess a valid SC Driver’s license (Class D). Applicants indicating college credit or degree(s) on the application may upload an unofficial copy of the transcript as an attachment to the application. Please note that the agency will require an official, certified copy of the transcript or diploma prior to hiring. Spring 2024 graduates may be considered for employment, contingent upon receipt of a bachelor’s degree in Forestry from a college or university accredited by the Society of American Foresters (SAF) prior to start date. You will be required to submit a certified official college transcript prior to the first day of employment. You will be considered ineligible for employment if you fail to obtain a bachelor’s degree in Forestry from a college or university accredited by SAF or provide a certified official college transcript prior to the first day of employment. Must be able to lift, walk, squat, climb and carry objects up to 50 lbs. Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in changing environmental conditions. Works a Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM-5:00 PM schedule. Occasional overnight travel required. If this position requires the applicant to possess a valid driver's license to operate a state vehicle or personal vehicle, any applicant being considered in the final stages of selection for the position may be required to provide a certified copy of a 10-year driving record.
