Bachelor’s degree in ecology, biology, planning, forestry, or a related field, with five to seven years of experience in land conservation and/or planning, or a master’s degree with three years of relevant experience.
• Knowledge of land transactions, conservation, and stewardship.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Grant writing
• Additional desirable skills (not required):
   o Experience using Landscape – Conservation application

Provides forest management assistance and outreach to landowners and the general public to promote active management of forestland and mitigate wildfire risk. Writes forest management plans to produce multiple benefits including the sustainable production of forest products, clean air and water, wildlife habitat, aesthetics and wildfire prevention. Administers cost-share programs and prepares reports. Assists landowners with implementation of forestry practices. Performs insect and disease activities. Represents agency at local meetings. Responds to wildfires both in-state and out-of-state through Southeastern Compact requests and western wildfire assignments. Under direct supervision, records forest inventory and health monitoring data on forest inventory plots with a degree of accuracy as required by the U.S. Forest Service - Southern Research Station - Forest Inventory and Analysis Unit. Works on a two-person forestry crew locating forest inventory plots and records inventory and health monitoring data at a minimum production rate with the degree of accuracy required by the U.S. Forest Service - Southern Research Station - Forest Inventory and Analysis Unit. Assist in determining ownership and obtaining permission from owner to enter property where plots are located. Digitally transmit completed data to U.S. Forest Service. Attends training sessions related to the Forest Inventory and Analysis program, Forester I position and other required or voluntary South Carolina Forestry Commission training. Participates in activities and/or projects in support of agency's mission and performs other duties as required.

A bachelor's degree in forestry from a program accredited by the Society of American Foresters or a bachelor’s degree in a related natural resources field that meets the Society of American Foresters’ Certified Forester educational requirements.
