Charles H. Flory Distinguished Service Award
The Charles H. Flory Distinguished Service Award, named in honor of SCFA’s first president, is presented annually to recognize outstanding contributions to forestry in South Carolina. It was first awarded in 1970.

SCFA’s Outstanding Logger of the Year Award is presented annually to a logger who has distinguished himself through exemplary harvesting practices and willingness to go "above the call of duty." It was first awarded in 1984.

SCFA Winners Receive National/Regional Honors

The SC Forestry Association (SCFA) has a strong outstanding Logger of the Year Award program as evidenced by individuals we’ve nominated who became regional and national winners. Here is a look back at some of them.

The SC Forestry Association’s 2005 Outstanding Loggers of the Year, Thomas "Tommy" G. Barnes, Sr. and David W. Cox, Jr., owners of Ideal Logging Co., Inc., Edgemoor, SC, received the 2007 Outstanding Loggers Award from Forest Resources Association, Inc.

Adrian E. Bishop, owner of Bishop Forest Products, Walterboro, SC, was SCFA’s 2004 Outstanding Logger of the Year. He won the National Outstanding Logger Award in 2006. Bishop served on SCFA’s Board of Directors and the Timber Harvesting Subcluster.

Tracy C. Gunter, owner of Tracy’s Logging, Leesville, SC, the Forestry Association’s 1994 Outstanding Logger of the Year, was also submitted for regional and national recognition. He won the National Outstanding Logger Award in 1996. Gunter served on SCFA’s Board, Logging Advisory Committee, Timber Harvesting Task Force, Logger Accreditation Subgroup on Insurance/Safety, and TOP Task Force.

Robert C. Martin, Martin Brothers, Inc., Summerton, SC, was SCFA’s 1988 Outstanding Logger of the Year and received the Southeastern Regional Outstanding Logger Award in 1989. His service with SCFA includes: Board of Directors, Logging Advisory Committee, Timber Harvesting Task Force, and Log A Load For Kids Committee. He is a past SCFA Distinguished Service Award recipient.

W. Virgil Wall, Sr. (deceased),W. V. Wall & Sons, Inc., Edgefield, SC, was SCFA’s 1987 Outstanding Logger of the Year and received the Southeastern Regional Outstanding Logger Award in 1988.
